Resizing images for entering in shows

The American Tapestry Alliance’s Unjuried Small Format show (this year called Renditions 2020) deadline is fast approaching. I’ve been getting increasing numbers of people asking me how to resize photos, so I’ve made a quick set of videos to help you with that.

The first video is for those of you who do not own any photo editing software such as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. It utilizes a free online software called Be Funky. It is easy to use and I show you how to do it in the video below. Find that free online program here: https://www.befunky.com/create/

The second video shows you how to resize an image if you do have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Other Adobe Creative Cloud programs also have this functionality and other graphic design or drawing programs may allow you to do this.

I know that using computer software and understanding all the specifics about pixels and sizes is confusing. I’ve tried to make it as simple as possible in these two videos. I have used .jpegs as the file format in the examples above because that is what the American Tapestry Alliance is asking for in their submission guidelines. I do recommend using a different format for printing when possible since .jpegs can become noisy when repeatedly saved.

Today ATA announced that the physical Renditions 2020 show will not be held this summer in Tennessee due to COVID-19. The show will have an online format and it will still have a catalog. I’d love everyone to still submit. Information for my group entry is HERE. If you haven’t sent your tapestry yet, you don’t need to prepare it to be hung and please do not mail it. You only need to send the photograph.

Don’t let getting your photograph into the right form make you feel like you are opening this door and stepping forward. And definitely don’t let it keep you from entering shows.
